Do DISC Assessment Results Change Over Time?

Should You Retake A DISC Assessment After A Certain Amount of Time?

Research shows that our DISC Results are relatively stable over time, and retaking the assessment likely isn’t worthwhile or necessary.

DISC measures two dimensions of personality. Of course, personality can and does change. However, for most of the population, DISC results won’t change much, if at all.

In fact, researchers for the DISC product called Everything DiSC have shown that when plotting scores on a circumplex of the DISC map, the average score change was 12-degrees.

Should you retake a DISC assessment after a certain amount of time?

Depending on the score of a person’s profile, this degree of change might not change the style at all, so the effects aren’t noticeable. However, if a person was close to having a different primary style, this change could feel like a big jump when, in fact, it’s within the normal range of change.

Why would someone's DISC Personality Change?

While the DISC Assessments we sell are well-researched and validated, it’s crucial to recognize that DISC is a self-assessment. The tool is only as reliable as the individual answering the questions on the assessment.

Our perceptions of ourselves frequently change. We might feel on top of the world one day and feel down the next day. While not measured within a DISC assessment, our mood can affect our DISC results.

Alternatively, some major life changes could alter our personality for good. Here is a short list of reasons that your DISC Personality Type might have changed:

  • Having a child
  • Experiencing a traumatic event
  • Age
  • Experiencing health related issues
This is not an extensive list and there are likely hundreds of different examples that could fill it. If you or someone you know experienced an item on this list (or something similar), it could be good to re-take the assessment to see if your results have changed.
